Where should I measure?

Measure neck, abdomen and waist on bare skin, and the hips over thin sports shorts, not over shaping garments. Keep the tape level without squeezing, and measure each point twice.

• Neck: just below the larynx, not over it. Look straight ahead with relaxed shoulders.
• Abdomen (men): across the navel, at the end of a normal breath out.
• Waist (women): at the narrowest point between lower ribs and navel, at the end of a normal breath out. If it is hard to see, measure at several points and use the smallest value.
• Hips (women): over the widest part of the buttocks, seen from the side.

Why the waist for women and not the abdomen?

The formula for women was developed with the natural waist, meaning the narrowest point. Using the abdomen instead distorts the result by about 0.5 percentage points per centimetre that the abdomen is larger than the waist. That is why the waist circumference goes to Apple Health for women.

Why does Android not save a circumference to Health Connect?

Health Connect has no data type for body circumferences. No app can store an abdomen or waist measurement there. On Android the app therefore keeps circumferences in its own history.

Why do the hips stay in the app?

Apple Health has exactly one circumference value, for abdomen or waist, and none for hips. So the app keeps the hip measurement in its own history.

How accurate is the value?

It is an estimate from the classic US Navy formula (Hodgdon & Beckett 1984). How close it is to your real body fat also depends on how carefully you measure. It is not meant for medical questions. The US Navy itself has used a different method since 1 January 2026; the app deliberately stays with the classic formula.

How do I delete my data?

Delete the app and its data is gone from your device. Values in Apple Health or Health Connect are deleted there. More in the privacy policy.

How do I get a refund?

The purchase goes through the App Store or Google Play, so you request a refund directly there.
